Meet Mrs CRUX
Hi, I’m Rebecca
I’m the owner of CRUX Fitness, and I created CRUX with a simple mission: to show people just how powerful exercise can be for our mental health, change the way we view fitness, and create an unstoppable, empowering community along the way.
We all have our fair share of trials and tribulations. Nobody has an easy life, but I want to use my own story to show what’s possible when we keep moving forward, even when life feels impossible.
In 2014, when I was six months pregnant, my partner died unexpectedly, just two weeks before we were due to move into our first home together. At the time, I was also in my final year at university.
Despite everything, I moved into what would have been our home and finished my degree while raising a newborn. I was incredibly lucky to have an amazing support network around me, but I also made exercise a priority because it became one of the tools that helped me manage my depression.
I then entered another relationship, had my second child, gained my Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification and began studying for my Level 3 Personal Training qualification while working part time.
I wanted to help other people experience the benefits of exercise that I had experienced myself, particularly when it came to mental health.
I thought I had everything I’d ever wanted. But I was unexpectedly diagnosed with depression again, prescribed SSRIs and referred for counselling. It was through counselling that I realised I was in an abusive relationship.
Leaving and starting the next chapter of my life wasn’t easy. I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety and PTSD, which also came with a long list of physical symptoms and challenges.
But rather than allowing everything I had been through to define me, it fuelled my desire to help others even more, particularly my two daughters.
I began educating myself about mental health, domestic abuse and the relationship between the mind and body through 1:1 counselling, group therapy, books, courses and, perhaps most importantly, listening to other people's experiences.
I’m living proof that we can take back control of our own lives.
We can’t control other people, their choices or what happens to us. But we can learn to influence how we respond, the choices we make, our thoughts and our behaviours.
That is at the heart of CRUX Fitness.
I want women to live longer, happier and healthier lives, and I want CRUX to play a part in making that possible.
I’ve created a safe space where women can become stronger, challenge themselves, learn to trust their bodies and surround themselves with a genuinely supportive and empowering community.
Because CRUX isn’t just about getting fitter.
It’s about becoming stronger in every sense of the word.
If you’d like to know more about CRUX, my story or how I can help you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
It’s my mission to help you become the strongest version of yourself, both physically and mentally.
